May.31-June.2 Weekend

Summer is finally here! (at least weather-wise) Lots of community oriented events happening this weekend, and with great weather, it's gonna be a lot of fun!

But however you spend your weekend, I just hope you find some time to get out and get some vitamin D :) Happy Friday!

Victoria on Victoria Day Weekend (in pictures and video!)

Last week, I travelled to the city named after Queen Victoria, on the Victoria Day weekend.

For those who haven't been to Victoria, it's a 1-2 hour ferry ride from the Twawwassen or Horseshoe Bay terminal (Horseshoe Bay ferry goes to Nanaimo; another 1-2 hours away from Victoria). Many people from Vancouver go there during holidays, looking for a period of relaxation.

But just because Victoria can be relaxing doesn't mean that can't be festive as well. I caught up with the Victoria Day parade while I was there:

Victoria is absolutely beautiful and it certainly looks like a "capital" city. Take a trip there sometime!

On a less positive note, right before I was about to cross the Lions Gate Bridge last Monday coming back from my trip, a motorcyclist was killed a few hundred metres in front of me. Let's remind ourselves to please drive safely and not rush...

Elephant Seal at Ambleside

Seal? Vancouver? You heard that right.

This elephant seal appeared in West Vancouver on Wednesday, choosing Ambleside beach as its "moulting grounds" for the next few weeks.

Elephant seals are usually found further north at this time, but it's not uncommon to see them on the BC coast. They spend most of their time at sea with the exception of a couple times in life, like moulting. Although it may look like the seal is sick during moulting, it's a completely natural process for elephant seals.

Go take a look at Ambleside Park if you have time; it's not everyday you see a wild marine mammal in Metro Vancouver. Remember to keep your distance and respect the mammal if you do visit :)
