More posts coming soon! And also the start of a weekly series that I will release in a couple of weeks...)
VEVA Electric Car Showcase:
Electric vehicles are on the rise around the world, and I decided to drop by and learn a bit more about them on Saturday.
At first glance, they don't look that different from gas-powered cars, and they aren't. The only major difference is on the inside, where there's batteries rather than a fuel tank.
The people at the electric car show were very informative, and I learned a lot being there. I happened to bump into the owner of the Nissan Leaf at the show, who told me that he's saving a lot of money by no longer going to gas stations. Only a ~$20 increase on his electrical bill! His 100% electric Nissan Leaf (2012) has a range of about 150km, perfect for his everyday needs.
There were also electric bikes at the showcase. But why might you need anything but yourself to power a bike?
Well, as the people there told me, the electric motor goes into power when you're going uphill so that you can ride uphill with ease. I thought it was a great idea.
You can open up the world of electric vehicles too by finding information online or going to one of VEVA's events. It's part of how Vancouver aims to be the "Greenest City in the World" by 2020!
